President’s Report

Another month a has just flown by and so much has been happening in the Club.

As you will all be aware, West Wave is closing for a 9 week period from the middle of Term 3 to the middle of Term 4. This has quite an affect on our programs, and has thus been top of mind since we found out. What this means for us is quite simple – we have had to find pool space at another location. I'm happy to say that we have been able to secure Epsom Girls Grammar pool for training 2 nights per week and Tepid baths for swim training. Deb will be sending out training details in the next week or so.

From a Committee standpoint, we have had a few changes in the officers of the Club after the AGM, with Tracey White coming in as Vice President, Hayden Searle as Treasurer, Andrew McKenzie as Club Captain and Zach Monk staying on as Secretary. With this the remainder of the committee is made up of: Karen Drage, Alene Watkinson, Linda Raynes, Margaret Chase, Deb Cameron and Luke Watkinson.

With the start of the new Committee we have also reviewed our support structures that we have historically had; to this end we are in the process of migrating to Xero and Karen Drage is leading this work. On the other side in the Club’s operations, Andrew Mckenzie has been hard at work with a coaching development position to help further support our teams and Davor.

Like with the last few, this month will be a busy one, stay safe and I'll see you round the pool.

National League Update

The regular season for our Blue Diamonds and Blue Devils is almost over, with just one round left before the Honda National League finals will be played at Diocesan School for Girls on the 15th and 16th of June.

The Blue Diamonds currently sit in 2nd position on the Women’s table, losing only two games to North Harbour and Atlantis City (on penalties). Grace Tobin is leading the Women’s goal scoring charts with 32 of her shots finding the net, followed closely by Emmerson Houghton on 28 and Brogan Houghton on 18. This weekend they take on Marist and North Harbour, both away games.

The Blue Devils will be fighting hard to shift from their current 5th place and secure a spot in the semi finals. Taking on the top two teams in the competition, Marist Magic (at Sacred Heart) and the North Harbour Turtles (at NAC), these games are not to be missed. Nick Stankovich and Anton Sunde find themselves in the top 10 goal scorers, with 22 and 19 goals respectively.

West Wave Pool Closure

As notified in our last newsletter, Auckland Council management have informed us that the West Wave Aquatic Centre will be closing later this year, from the 31st of August to the 2nd of November. This will affect our Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 programs, as well as our Senior teams who begin pre-season training in Term 4.

As Matt mentioned above, we are pleased to announce that we have secured space at EGGS pool for training on weekdays, and the Tepid Baths for swim training on the weekends. More details to come via coordinators. We are also planning to run a training camp in the first week of the Term 3 holidays from the EGGS pool.

Moving to Xero

Over the course of June, the Club will be moving its financial database from MYOB to Xero. This will give the Committee better transparency over the Club’s finances, and simplify statements for our members. We appreciate your patience during this time – if you have any questions, please click below to email to Karen Drage.
