President’s Report

The competitive season is well underway, as we approach the halfway point for the year.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate our Senior Women who placed third in the Honda National League, and to the Under 21 Women who placed second at their recent National Championships. Well done also to our Under 18 teams who recently finished their Auckland League, and good luck for Nationals this weekend!

The third edition of our holiday camp is running next week, which is again very popular with capacity all but reached. The committee is dedicated to running these every holidays, and is planning for a Flippa Ball transition to water polo camp over the summer, as well as opportunities for our Under 16 age group in 2020. We are pleased to have secured pool space for a camp at EGGS in the first week of the Term 3 holidays while West Wave is closed – more info to come.

The committee is starting to plan for 2020, thinking ahead to Pan Pacs and looking for new opportunities to grow the Club and add value for our members. Keep your eyes out for a 2020 calendar to be released later this year. New Zealand Water Polo will also be rolling out a survey for water polo participants in the coming months; I would encourage you to complete this as honestly and throughly as possible, as it provides important feedback for us as a Club.

Finally, all the best to our six Waitakere representatives who are heading to the FINA World Championships in Korea next week. Do us proud!

Silver for Under 21 Women

Congratulations to our Under 21 Women who placed second at the Under 21 National Championships over the weekend!

The squad was made up largely of Blue Diamonds, fresh from their bronze medal at National League, with Tauranga’s Shinae Carrington buoying the lineup with her experience in the New Zealand Senior Women’s team.

Two good wins against Atlantis City and Canterbury opened the tournament well on the Friday, with two more against Marist and Wellington on Saturday. Having qualified for the gold medal match, a loss to North Harbour on Saturday was inconsequential. However, the women weren't able to turn it around on the Sunday, going down to Harbour’s Maroon side to claim the silver medal.

The Under 21 Men faced a tough pool, with losses to the top two teams on the Friday. They managed to win all their games from there on to take 5th place overall.

A huge thank you to all of our coaches and managers for their time and effort throughout the weekend!
