Medals for Both Waitakere Teams at National League
The New Zealand Water Polo National League has wrapped up, with both of our Senior sides netting medals.
The Waitakere Blue Diamonds overcame Hutt Heat 13-12 for Bronze, and the Blue Devils, after a strong performance in the semi finals and a strong lead until the fourth quarter of the final, went down 10-9 to North Harbour's Cootes Construction Mens side.
From New Zealand Water Polo:
Last year's champion and this year's table-topper, Marist Magic lost their semi-final on Saturday in a breathtaking match against Waitakere Blue Devils. The game was highly competitive and went to a penalty shoot-out which was won by Waitakere (15-13).
Cootes Construction North Harbour and Waitakere Blue Devils produced an exciting and drama-filled National League mens final.
Waitakere started strongly and opened up a four goal lead at one point, then held the lead into the final period. North Harbour finished the strongest in a dramatic last quarter, only taking the lead in the final minutes. This was a fantastic match to finish the 2018 National League season, with the victory to Cootes Construction North Harbour, 10-9 over Waitakere.
Waitakere Blue Diamonds faced Hutt Heat in the battle for the bronze medal this Sunday, at 12 pm. After an extremely tight game, Waitakere managed to beat Hutt Heat by 13 – 12 and got the third place.
Congratulations to Nick Stankovich, Mens Top Goal Scorer (56), Sean Newcombe & Emmerson Houghton for making their respective tournament teams.
