Trio of Waitakere Women selected for National side

Congratulations to Waitakere Water Polo players Chantelle Conroy, Emmerson Houghton and Grace Tobin who have been selected to compete in the 17th FINA Womens World Cup to be held later this year in Surgut, Russia.

The three women have been instrumental in recent successes for our Waitak womens' sides, including a recent Bronze at the Pan Pacific Youth Water Polo Festival and Gold at National League in 2017.

The team will depart on Wednesday 29 August 2018.

“New Zealand Water Polo is delighted to accept an invitation from FINA to participate in this prestigious event”, says Chris Wilson, Chief Executive of New Zealand Water Polo. “The significant progress of the New Zealand Women’s team over the last two years has led to a place in Surgut.  The team is well prepared having already competed in the FINA Intercontinental Cup held in New Zealand in April.  This was followed by a competitive season in the New Zealand National League”.

New Zealand has been drawn in Group 2, along with South Africa, USA and Canada.  Group 1 teams include Spain, China, Australia and the hosts, Russia.

The tournament begins for New Zealand on 4 September against the United States of America.

Good luck girls, do your Club proud!
