Colin Bright, Auckland Water Polo's First Life Member
Though the name of Colin Bright is perhaps not one that many Waitakere Water Polo members would know today, he has been a driving force for water polo in Auckland for many years. Last night Colin was awarded the first life membership award to the newly incorporated Auckland Water Polo Centre, for his services to the sport over the last 36 years.
Back in 1984, Colin was one of the founding members of Waitakere Water Polo Club (then know as Realty Brothers Waitakere). At the time there were just three water polo clubs in Auckland – Waitakere, Marist and North Harbour (then named North Shore). Now, with seven club across Auckland, Colin is still involved in supporting the development of the sport in the Auckland region. Most recently he has held the position of Treasurer of Auckland Water Polo, until it was taken over this year by our Chair, Matt Southerden.
In Matt’s words, ‘it was an honour to be present when our Water Polo community recognised him for his service to the sport in Auckland’. Congratulations Colin for this achievement, and a huge thank you for all the contributions that you have made to our club and the sport of water polo over the past 36 years.
