Under 12 Overview

  • The under 12s season runs from Term 1 to Labour weekend when the last tournament is, however children can join at any time.

  • In Term 4 we offer Foundational Training.

  • U12’s is the only age group that has mixed gender teams.

  • It is open to club members only. You must have paid the club annual membership fee before being eligible to play.

  • Any player who was 11 or younger on January 1 is eligible. 
    We have players of all abilities and welcome new players throughout the year - come along and give it a go! 
    Just flick the coordinator an email in advance.

  • They play 4 tournaments throughout the year where we enter 1-3 graded teams depending on numbers.

  • Kids don’t need to have played before, however we recommend they attend an ‘Intro to Water Polo’ session first if possible.

  • Your child is not obligated to go to the tournaments, however they are a lot of fun and a great opportunity to gain skills, understand the game and make friends!

Training, registration and fees

U12 training in 2026 is Sundays, 9-11am.
Within this two-hour slot, trainings are split among experience levels.

Club annual membership fee (compulsory):

  • Provides membership of WWPC. $100 per annum, charged with age group registration.

  • Register here using the ‘Register Under 18 years of age’ option.

Season age group training (compulsory):

  • Runs over terms 1-Labour weekend, however children can join at any time.

  • $65 in term 1, $75 in terms 2 and 3 and new members receive a loan club T-shirt (poolside, no need to order).

  • You have the option of paying fully at the time of registration, or to lessen the financial burden you can opt to split the payments across the three terms the training takes place. You only need to register once for the season, via our website, using our Friendly Manager platform. At the time of registration you will be charged the membership fee and first term payment. You will then be invoiced automatically in the last week of the term before for the following term. 

  • The initial payment via the website can be paid by credit card or bank transfer if you wish to avoid the card fees. Following invoices need to be paid by bank transfer into the WWPC bank account.

Foundational training (optional but highly recommended):

  • Terms 4 post Labour Weekend.

  • $75 per term.

  • When an age group is not in season, we offer foundational water polo training for preparation, skill development for those who are available.

  • While attendance is not ‘compulsory’ in the same way as ‘season’ training, it is highly recommended. It is your time to develop skills and techniques and build your fitness levels for the upcoming playing season.

Swim Squad training (optional but highly recommended):

  • $110 per term per session.

  • These are available all four terms of the year, and are swim squad sessions tailored for water polo fitness for members only.

  • Swim squad is not compulsory but highly recommended to build fitness.

  • Swim squad training fees are additional to any other club fees and you can choose to register for 1, 2 or 3 sessions per week, currently run on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays.
    If you sign up and pay for the Tuesday session, then you can attend only on a Tuesday each week. If you sign up and pay for Tuesday and Thursday, then you can attend both nights each week.

Tournaments (optional):

There is no regular competition for this age group. Instead, players take part in several competitions throughout the year depending on interest and availability:

  • Tauranga U12 Tournament, Anzac Weekend – Baywave Aquatic Centre, Tauranga | Saturday 25th April - Monday 27th April 2026

  • Mountfort Park Kings Birthday U12 Tournament – Manurewa Aquatic Centre | Friday 29th May- Monday 1st June 2026

  • Rowan Brown Jelly Belly U12 Tournament, Matariki Weekend – AUT Millennium/National Aquatic Centre | Friday 10th July - Sunday 12 July 2026

  • U12 Tournament of Future Stars, Labour Weekend – Water World, Hamilton | Saturday 24th - Monday 26th October 2026

  • Tournaments cost additional fees and cover tournament entry fee, coaching costs, and coaches travel and accommodation, depending on where they are based. 
    They can range between $130 and $200 depending on where the tournament is held (Auckland is less cost).

    We will ask for Expression of Interests (EOI)’s for each tournament.

  • Players can join at any time and train and pay for each tournament individually or train and pay for the entire season.

  • You will need to have paid the term fee to participate in the tournament in that term.

  • Players may also be offered the option to play up in our Under 14 programme.

All invoices state due dates, and are generally 14 days after the invoice issue date.
